In recognition of her services for the cause of interfaith harmony, the President of Pakistan H.E. Dr Arif Alvi bestowed the International Peace Award on the EU Ambassador to Pakistan H.E. Androulla Kaminara during the International Interfaith Peace Conference held in Islamabad on 24 November. Organised by the Interfaith Council for Peace and Harmony and Majlis Ulema-e-Pakistan and convened by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the grand imam of the Badshahi Mosque and the President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi the conference brought religious leaders, human rights experts, social activists and members of diplomatic community.
During her address at the conference, Ambassador Kaminra reiterated that the EU believes that the culture of non-violence, dialogue, harmony and reconciliation were key to interfaith harmony. Ambassador Kaminaar added that it was a common responsibility as leaders to promote the values of peaceful coexistence and harmony. Ambassador Kaminara mentioned that the EU Charter and the UN convention, of which Pakistan is a signatory, stressed freedom of religion.
EU has been organising serious of roundtables across Pakistan in collaboration with the Grand Imam Badshahi Mosque/Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad supported by the organisation Interfaith Council for Peace and Harmony to enhance inter and intrafaith understanding in the country.
I a separate event, the Global Ambassador Award was also conferred to EU Ambassador Kaminara on 25 November in Islamabad for promoting people-to-people contact, business, trade, and bilateral relations between the EU and Pakistan. Ambassador Kaminara attributed the achievement to the contributions of her colleagues at the EU Delegation, the EU Member States as well as to her Pakistani counter parts and husband.

The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib and the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Faisal Javed Khan graced the occasion as chief guests and presented awards to Awardees at the ceremony. The ceremony was attended by a large number of ambassadors, diplomats, and other important civil society leaders and personalities.
