“The current EMPOWER EU funded project we are launching aims at promoting empowerment of youth in South Sudan, through access to relevant and quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and income generating opportunities,” said Christian Bader, the European Union Ambassador to South Sudan at the launch of Empower II project on Friday.

“The project provides equal access to TVET opportunities to girls, in order to enable them do courses that were pre-dominantly perceived for men like carpentry, welding or electricity. Such opportunities strengthen young women who may not have had an opportunity for alternative sources of income and livelihood to earn income and live a decent life.”

Worth 4 million Euros, this project will benefit about 3350 recipients in Jonglei (Bor, Akobo old Fangak and Pibor counties), Western Bar el Ghazel (Jur River County) and Central Equatoria (Juba and Yei) states, for a duration of two and a half years.

According to Alexander Davey, Norwegian Refugee Council Country Director in South Sudan, empowering young South Sudanese and transforming them into active citizens on matters of development of the country’s economy and general nation building is a crucial investment for the future of the country.

Hon. Kuyok Abul Kuyok, Undersecretary of Ministry of General Education and Instruction, also attended the launch.
