Together with millions of people around the world, the European Union today celebrates the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. As Federica Mogherini said on behalf of the EU, this occasion is "a timely opportunity to remind Governments of their obligation to promote the universality of human rights and ensure that everyone, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation enjoys these rights without discrimination."
EU ministers began their meeting with discussions on Turkey: “We will assess with the ministers the state of play of developments inside the country and in our relations. I think we need a serious in-depth, frank and serene discussion among the Member States. And obviously the Foreign Minister of Turkey [Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu] will join us this afternoon and I will have a bilateral meeting with him later tonight,” Mogherini told the media ahead of the meeting.
