Asia matters – for Europe. And Europe matters – for Asia. It is with this simple premise in mind that the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) was created in 1996
On 20 and 21 November, Ministers of Foreign Affairs from across Europe and Asia will gather in in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar for the 13th ASEM Foreign Ministers' Meeting (FMM13), with the participation of the EU High
Representative Federica Mogherini as coordinator for the European group.
The EU hosted the ASEM Senior Officials' Meeting on 22-23 June in Brussels, which was preceded by the 1st ever meeting of the ASEM Pathfinder Group on Connectivity. Both meetings were chaired by Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director Asia and Pacific.
The 11th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit took place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 July, 2016, under the theme "20 Years of ASEM: Partnership for the Future through Connectivity".

Apart from the biennial Summits, the ASEM process features ministerial, senior official meetings and other events in an increasing number of fields, reflecting the expanding opportunities of dialogue and cooperation between the two regions.
The Asia Europe Meeting is a unique informal platform for cooperation between Asia and Europe. Its main purpose is to foster political dialogue, strengthen economic cooperation and promote people to people links and cooperation.
