EU Training Mission is a Common Security and Defence Policy military mission contributing to the training and advisory support of the Malian Armed Forces (MaAF). Launched on 18 February 2013 the mission mandate has been extended until 18 May 2024. Comprising circa 700 personnel from 24 EU member states and 6 non-EU states, with the Mission Headquarters located in Bamako and the main training centre in Kolikuru.

In line with the “EU Strategy for Development and Security in the SAHEL“, EUTM Mali aims to support the training and reorganisation of the MaAF and to help to improve its military capacity in order to allow, under civilian authority, the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity.

To date over 15,000 MaAF personnel have been trained by EUTM Mali. The mission also supports the implementation of the structural reforms encompassed in the Defence Programming Law (“Loi de programmation militaire - LOPM) and supports the MaAF in the operationalisation of the G5 Sahel Joint Force (Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger).
