New EU Ambassador to Fiji Presents his Credentials

12/09/19 - Suva, Fiji - The new Ambassador and Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation for the Pacific, His Excellency Sujiro Seam presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Fiji His Excellency, Major General (Ret'd) Jioji Konousi Konrote at a State House ceremony today.

In his accompanying note to President Konrote, Ambassador Seam stressed the fundamental importance of the EU's relationship with Fiji.   

 

Ambassador Seam who prior to his posting as Head of the EU Delegation for the Pacific was the French Ambassador to Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu, said: ''I accept with great pleasure and honour this new posting to your beautiful country. The Fiji - EU relations are at an all-time high both bilaterally and also in our work together on the international stage on climate change and Oceans to name a few. I look forward to working with Fiji over the next four years to deepen our relationship further. In addition, I will also be focused on strengthening the bilateral and regional cooperation and partnerships at all levels in line with the common goals and guiding framework enshrined in the Cotonou Partnership Agreement and post Cotonou.''

Ambassador Seam noted that since its inception more than six decades ago, the EU has become a global actor and a true political, development and economic partner for Fiji. Ambassador Seam underlined that our close to 46 years of friendship with Fiji has helped solidify our shared interests, values, security and prosperity.

 

Ambassador Seam represents the Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, under the authority of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Ambassador Seam is a French citizen.  He is married to Jane Seam and they have moved to Fiji with their two children.
