EU-CELAC Summit 2015 Brussels

Heads of state and government from the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean will meet in Brussels on 10 and 11 June to discuss ways to deepen their ties.

The EU-CELAC partnership represents 61 countries and over 1 billion people.

The European Union and its partners in Latin America and the Caribbean share a long history of cooperation. During the summit leaders focused above all on forging a partnership for the next generation:

  • Together they drive trade and investment to create jobs & growth that benefit everybody. They promote lasting development to ensure high living standards for our citizens and fight poverty globally. Both sides invest in innovation and education to create fair societies that are fit for the future. The EU and CELAC will put people first to improve everyday lives - today and for the next generation.
  • The EU–CELAC partnership is built on shared identity and values: in a world where adherence to international law, a democratic order and guaranteed basic rights can no longer be taken for granted, close partners like the EU and CELAC need to work together to defend our core values.
  • The EU-CELAC partnership protects citizens from the dangers of an increasingly connected, conflict ridden and complex world: drug trafficking, terrorist attacks and natural disasters affect us all. We need to work together to protect our citizens to tackle joint challenges such as organised crime and climate change.
