The factsheet of the EU EOM Zambia 2016 holds basic information about the mission. We recommend it as a tool for journalists reporting about the EU EOM, and to all stakeholders who are interested in the work of the EU election observers.

In response to an invitation by the Zambian authorities, the European Union has deployed an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Zambia to observe the Presidential, Parliamentary, Mayoral and Council Chairpersons, and Local Government elections which are scheduled for 11 August.

Cecile Kashetu Kyenge, an Italian member of the European Parliament was appointed to lead the EU Election Observation Mission to Zambia. Ms Kyenge was appointed as Chief Observer of the mission by Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

The EU Election Observation Mission operates in accordance with the “Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation” adopted in 2005 at the United Nations. Click on the link to read the full document.

The Long-Term Observers (LTOs) of the European Union Election Observation Mission to Zambia (EU EOM) arrived in Lusaka on Monday. After a short training in the capital, the observer teams will deploy to every corner of Zambia.
