EU support to business and energy sectors in Zambia

On 22 October 2020 the EU signed with Zambian Government two Financing Agreements for Economic Governance & Renewable Energy programmes, for a total of 46.5 MEuro. These will promote inclusive and green economic recovery and growth in Zambia, with the youth as our future.

 

On 22 October 2020, the European Union and the Government of Zambia signed two Financing Agreements: the ‘Economic Governance Support Programme’ for for a total amount of 21.5 MEUR (approx. 515 million Kwacha) and the ‘Zambia Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Transformation Programme’ for a total of 25 MEUR (approx. 600 million Kwacha). During the signing ceremony, the Ambassador of the European Union to Zambia and COMESA, H.E. Jacek Jankowski, emphasized that “The two Financing Agreements we are signing today are very good news for Zambia. Their aim is to improve a) the Government´s service delivery to the private sector and the public at large, and b) the energy efficiency of the country. Both programmes will also contribute to a more inclusive and green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and will be of great benefit of the Zambian people". The Secretary to the Treasury Mr. Fredson Yamba who signed on behalf of the Zambian Government said “the two support programmes resonate well with the Government’s overall development agenda that emphasises on the promotion of inclusive governance and growth, and energy sector efficiency and growth,” adding, “my office will pay particular attention to ensure that every institution benefiting from these grants adhere to the rules governing this support, and remain focused on the expected results”.
