The 40th COMESA Policy Organs Meetings are taking place in Lusaka from the 25th to 29th July 2018 under the theme: "Growing together for Prosperity". At this occasion, the Ambassador of the European Union to Zambia and Representative to COMESA, Jacek Jankowski, delivered a statement at the Opening Session of the Intergovernmental Committee meeting on 25 November 2019.
Ambassador Jacek Jankowski congratulated COMESA on its 25th Silver Jubilee which comes at a time when the European Union is undergoing its own change in leadership and defining its new priorities for future co-operation, including with COMESA. The top priorities of the incoming President of the European Commission are 1) A European Green Deal, 2) An Economy that works for the People and 3) A Europe fit for the Digital Age. Becoming "A Geopolitical Commission", she wants to translate EU's new political priorities into International Partnership at multilateral, regional and national levels.
HE Jacek Jankowski concluded by reaffirming that the European Union attaches great importance to the economic development of the African continent. Therefore the launch of the Africa Europe Alliance for Sustainable Investment and Jobs is a top priority for the EU that will support the integration agenda in domains such as private sector, trade, industrialization and job creation. It makes available innovative financial instruments to investors as well as offers skills development initiatives for the youth.
