On the first anniversary of the UN-brokered truce, the European Union reiterates its firm support for UN-led peace efforts in Yemen.

The truce offered a rare sense of hope and had a very positive impact on the lives of many Yemenis, with dramatically reduced civilian casualties, regular international flights from Sana’a and fuel shipments through the ports of Hodeydah. These elements continue making a difference, showing the benefits that peace can bring.

The EU calls on the parties, especially the Houthis, to avoid unhelpful actions and engage constructively with UNSE Grundberg on an extended and expanded truce; which can pave the way for a ceasefire and for a comprehensive and inclusive peace process under UN auspices.

Yemenis deserve no less.
