A renewed bout of hostilities in the Kushar district led, once more, to the death of many civilians. Medical reports indicate that they are all women and children from two families. The European Union expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.
Three months after the signature of the Stockholm Agreement, these developments show that its full implementation is a matter of extreme urgency. It is essential to lay the groundwork for progress towards an inclusive political solution, which is the only option to put an end to this long conflict.
The EU expects all the parties to stick to their respective commitments and swiftly implement the provisions of the Hodeidah ceasefire, especially the mutual redeployment of forces. They should engage with the UN Special Envoy, in good faith, to fulfil the UN Security Council Resolutions 2451 and 2452. The EU reiterates its full constant support to the UN-led process.
