The Delegation of the European Union to Yemen, currently based in Amman, Jordan, is looking for a paid intern starting as from 15th April 2018

What we offer?

A paid traineeship within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Yemen, based in Amman, Jordan.

The Political, Press and Information Section is responsible for following all political, socio-economic and human rights developments in Yemen and for providing Headquarters with analysis and insights on the evolution of the current conflict and its regional implications. The Political Section of the EU Delegation supports the Head of Delegation in her activities aimed at designing, implementing and promoting EU initiatives in Yemen, in close coordination with EU member States, through engagement with Yemeni stakeholders and regional actors, as well as by providing support to the UN Special Envoy for Yemen to reach a political solution to the Yemeni conflict. The dissemination of information regarding EU activities in and for Yemen (and beyond) is another key activity of the Section.

The successful candidate during the internship will acquire transferable pre-professional skills, such as language skills, the capacity for independence and self-assurance, mastering office computer software and using academic skills for writing an end of work-experience report. He/she will discover the organization and the decision making process of the EU and will gain an insight into the activities of the EU Delegation to Yemen. He/she will develop an aptitude for thoughtful consideration analysis and will master the production of written reports and professional computer assisted presentations at international level. The experience (personal and professional) gained in integrating a multicultural and results-oriented team will be a key asset for any future professional endeavour.

Main tasks:

  • Research and written input into the Section's regular political reporting
  • Organizing and preparing minutes of meetings and conferences with many different stakeholders, including civil society and Yemeni authorities
  • Assistance to the drafting of briefing speeches
  • Assistance to various press and information activities (eg. social media, visibility)
  • Other ad-hoc administrative tasks supporting the functioning of the section

Are you eligible for remunerated traineeship?

You may apply for the traineeship if:

  • You are a young graduate with a University diploma (at least Bachelor degree)
  • You have less than 1 year of professional experience
  • You are a national of an EU Member State, pre-accession State or from the country where the Delegation is accredited and located (Republic of Yemen and Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan)
  • You have no previous professional experience in any of the EU institutions of more than 6 weeks
  • Fluent in English language (oral and written)

Additional requirements that would be an asset 

  • Knowledge of Arabic language
  • Knowledge of French language
  • Additional degree in another field (e.g. law)

What are the general rules?

  • Duration: 5 months
  • Monthly grant: selected trainees will receive a monthly grant of 700€/month
  • Visa (applicable to non-Jordanians): trainees are responsible for obtaining and covering the cost of necessary visa
  • Travel: trainees have to arrange and finance their travel to the EU Delegation
  • Accommodation: the trainee will have to cover the accommodation costs

You are requested to examine the general eligibility criteria. Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications received is over, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. In case the selected candidate is not able to present all required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
