The 6th meeting of the High Level Political Dialogue between Brazil and the European Union (EU) took place in Brasilia on November 19th, 2019. The delegations had an open and constructive exchange on a wide range of subjects, including the evolution of bilateral relations and their strategic partnership. Priorities for the new Brazilian Government as well as perspectives for the new European Commission have been discussed, alongside with global and regional issues. Both parties have reaffirmed their commitment to the EU-MERCOSUR Association Agreement.

In view of the proposal by Brazil to host the 8th Brazil-European Union Summit in the first semester of 2020, both parties have agreed to carry out a stocktaking of the bilateral relations, including within a preparatory Joint Committee, on the basis of the objectives set out in the Summit of 2007, which launched the Strategic Partnership between Brazil and the European Union.

The meeting was co-chaired by Kenneth Haczynski da Nóbrega, Secretary of Bilateral Negotiations in the Middle East, Europe and Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, and Jean-Christophe Belliard, Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs at the European External Action Service (EEAS) of the European Union.

Deputy Secretary General Jean-Christophe Belliard also presented at the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation the lecture “European Union in the World and its Relations with Brazil”.
