The European Union congratulates the Ecuadorian people who went to the polls on Sunday for the second round of the presidential elections. The electoral process was peaceful and saw a high turnout reflecting the strong commitment of Ecuadorian people to democracy. Preliminary results show a comfortable victory of Guillermo Lasso. The EU looks forward to working with the new elected President.
Over the past years, Ecuador and the EU have developed a successful cooperation across a wide range of areas, including on policy dialogue, human rights, trade and economic matters, as well as in multilateral fora. The EU remains a committed partner of Ecuador and will work to continue strengthening this long-standing partnership with the new government.
