The Jeyran Field Exercise (EU CBRN CoE) is going to take place on 13, 14 and 15 November

The Jeyran Field exercise will take place over the three days of November 13, 14 and 15, an event promoted within the EU CBRN CoE Initiative. The field exercise was preceded by the 11th National Focal Points Round Table meeting for Central Asia, organized by the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Centre of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE), in close collaboration with the European Commission Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO) and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).

Jussi Narvi, Head of Political; Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan, gave a welcoming speech at the opening of the Jeyran Field Exercise. The latter represents one of the largest CBRN field exercises in the Central Asia region. Not only Uzbek national authorities have been involved, but also regional experts from EU CBRN CoE partner countries, from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Mr. Narvi expressed in his speech: “The Jeyran field exercise, in line with these strategic efforts, was designed to capitalize on the collective knowledge and experience on how to withstand and counter threats associated with chemical and biological agents utilized in terrorist scenarios. In this exercise, as we will have a chance to witness, all competent authorities of Uzbekistan are being involved in running the scenario: from anti-terrorist squads, first responders to public health workers. This is a major advantage of a field exercise: It tests also the compatibility of the procedures of different actors – often developed independently – and their ability to cooperate in a crisis situation.”

The European Union, with the adoption of its new Strategy in Central Asian countries, is determined to strengthen cooperation in the field of resilience, connectivity, security and stability in the region. The regional cooperation pursued by the EU CBRN CoE Initiative with the Jeyran field exercise is evidence of the engagement undertaken by the Union and the partner countries.
