On April 10, a presentation of EU funded project "Enhancement of Vulnerable Children Protection Mechanism in Uzbekistan", implemented by the Association “SOS Children's Villages of Uzbekistan” was held in Tashkent. Opening speeches were delivered by Deputy prime Minister of Uzbekistan T. Narbayeva, Head of Cooperation Section at EU Delegation to Uzbekistan Mr Ovidiu Mic and Director of Association "SOS Children's villages of Uzbekistan" G. Abidova. All the speakers highlighted the importance and value of the project aimed at strengthening of family institution.
In particular, it was noted that by increasing the social protection of vulnerable families in Uzbekistan, it is possible to reduce the number of children in orphanages.
This pilot project covers 10 mahallas in the city of Tashkent, Samarkand and Khorezm regions, which means 5 thousand vulnerable families and about 15 thousand children.
It is aimed at strengthening interaction between state and non-state organizations, local governments in protecting and promoting the interests of families and children by providing social support on the basis of mahallas.
The event was attended by representatives of national and international organizations, as well as civil society institutions and local self-government bodies, carrying out their activities in the field of improving welfare of children and social protection of the population.
The participants exchanged views on the work with vulnerable families carried out by the Women's Committee of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Public Education, the Mahalla Foundation and the Republican Centre for Social Adaptation of Children. Also, the sides developed recommendations on approaches to work aimed at strengthening interaction between organizations that are carrying out their activities in the area of supporting children and families within the project.
