On February 22-23, 2018, a training is held for local water and environmental NGOs on “The use of modern means of communication for raising public awareness on the activities of NGOs and projects in water and environmental sphere”. The training is organized within UzWaterAware project, implemented by CAREC with financial support of the European Union.

The training is a follow-up activity of the first meeting with NGOs, which was held in December 2017 to present UzWaterAware project to the participants. The project is aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of efficient water consumption, as well as to unite efforts of NGOs and government agencies involved in water and environmental sphere. Within the first meeting, all participants had an opportunity to tell about their organizations, existing projects, plans and problems. One of the problems mentioned during first NGO meeting was the poor coverage of their activities and the lack of skills for creating and using their own modern communication channels (website, social networking pages, messengers).

Training on modern means of communication and the features of working with them was organized to develop the potential of NGOs and to raise public awareness about their activities in water and environmental sphere in terms of global climate change. Experts and practitioners of consulting company in “green technologies” Green Innovation Group and the leading IT company in Uzbekistan Brand.uz were involved in development and conducting of the event.

During the training, NGO representatives are offered a lot of information, including efficient modern techniques for informing the population and promoting their projects to international donors.

Training includes both theoretical and practical parts on different topics:

  • Potential for using local and regional platforms for sharing information and experience in water and environmental sector;
  • Design-thinking as an instrument of developing new environmental and communication initiatives;
  • How to influence on behavioral stereotypes through informing and approaches in environmental sphere;
  • IT and media in promotion of water and environmental initiatives and attracting the attention of international organizations, sponsorships;
  • The myths about difficulties of having a web-site and social media pages;
  • Communication Strategies efficient for Uzbekistan;
  • Case-studies of local and international NGO practices;
  • Involving the audience in NGO activities.

The program includes a lot of panel discussions and interactive activities in order to involve all the participants in educational process.

Such Uzbek NGOs as “Uzbekistan Society for the Protection of Birds” and Khorezm agro-consultative centre KRASS, which actively use modern Internet platforms for informing about their activities, promoting and funding, have shared their successful experience during the training.

After the event, UzWaterAware project plans to continue cooperating with water and environmental NGOs, which have actively participated in training. In particular, their initiatives within activities and aims of the project will be supported.
