Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is implementing the programme "Sustainable management of water resources in rural areas in Uzbekistan" Component 1 - National policy framework for water governance and integrated water resources management. The programme funded by the European Union and will be run between 2016 and 2019.
This programme component aims at contributing to further development of a national water resources management strategy by enhancing legal, institutional, organizational and financial frameworks and regulatory instruments and by aligning them to international standards. The main national partner is the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The programme, however, has a strong capacity building component, which is elaborated together with the Academy for Public Administration under the President of Uzbekistan.
On 4 November 2016, there was an official ceremony for signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the Academy for Public Administration and the GIZ Country Office in Uzbekistan. The Memorandum of Understanding lays the basis for further development of the existing Academy’s module on sustainable water resources management for capacity building of policy makers on the national, regional and executive levels. GIZ together with the Academy and national and international experts will prepare new and up-dated teaching materials on integrated water resources management and will hold training of trainer courses for Academy staff.
This Memorandum of Understanding is forming the basis for future cooperation, the exchange of information, experience, knowledge and best practices in water resources management and other socio-economic fields for the benefit of the project partners.
