Terrorism targets not just the security of people, but also freedom of speech and diversity of societies. Those were some of the messages EU High Representative Federica Mogherini delivered in a speech at a Washington Summit on Countering Violent Extremism at the White House on 19 February.

The fight against violent extremism dominated a week which saw EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini visit Spain and Portugal, chair the informal meeting of EU Defence Ministers in Riga, and speak at the White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism.

I will stay only for a while because afterwards I will be flying to Washington for a meeting on extremist violence and counter-terrorism, where I will have also the chance of speaking with Secretary of State Kerry and some of our Arab partners on the situation in Libya, in particular.
