The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to the United States of America in Washington DC works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a full-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the U.S. government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

We offer the post of Local ICT Support Officer (Local Agent Group II) in the Delegation's Administration Section. The team consists of 18 people and there are occasional atypical working hours.

As a key member of the Administration Section, The ICT Support Officer will provide support to users and contribute to the design, management and maintenance of ICT services and infrastructure at the Delegation, and will be under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of the Administration Section and will be assigned the following tasks and duties:

  • Providing first and second-level ICT support for all users;
  • Installing, upgrading, maintaining and decommissioning hardware and software;
  • Maintaining and tracking of hardware and software inventory;
  • Troubleshooting ICT-related technical problems;
  • Contributing to the ICT maintenance that takes place in the evenings and on weekends;
  • Testing new versions, releases and patches for hardware and software and providing recommendations on their implementation at the Delegation;
  • Assisting in the process of ordering of new IT equipment and initiating ICT-related purchases;
  • Day to day management of the ICT architecture and systems;
  • Contributing to the design and implementation of ITSM processes and agreements;
  • Moves, Additions and Changes for the Delegation telephone system;
  • Authorising the expenditure on ICT related utilities;
  • Budgeting and estimating future costs for ICT related utilities;
  • Performing any other tasks required in the interests of the service.

The salary range is dependent on relevant and verified employment experience, typical ranges escalating from $71K (3 years' experience), $76K (10 years' experience), $80K (15 years’ experience) etc. and with excellent vacation, health and social insurances and 401K benefits. The position has occasionally atypical working hours.

We look for

  • A level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education, and appropriate professional experience of at least 3 years;
  • Professional experience and appropriate technical knowledge in first or second-level ICT support;
  • Knowledge and skills in the installation, configuration and use of Windows-based clients and servers (Windows 10, Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows Server 2008, 2012 and 2016);
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and LAN/Wi-Fi network technologies;
  • Experience in working in a controlled environment with defined ITSM processes (ITIL or ISO 20000);
  • Expertise in network architectures, protocols, and technologies covering LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, and public networks;
  • Expertise in implementing and managing of telecommunication services (VoIP, videoconferencing and mobile communication systems);
  • Ability to identify and adjust the priority level of activities and assignments;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Service-oriented attitude;
  • Fluency in English obligatory, knowledge of another European language an advantage;
  • Experience from working in an EU Member State embassy or EU Delegation an advantage.

The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase that will include an interview and practical test. During this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post. Those candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this job advertisement to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
