For the 12th consecutive year, Ottawans marked the beginning of the Christmas season with the European Union Christmas Concert on 6 December at the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica. They showed up in great numbers for a thrilling evening of Christmas carols and songs from across Europe and beyond.

Organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Canada and the Embassies of EU Member States, the European Union Christmas Concert has become an extraordinary winter music tradition in the National Capital Region.

The programme was put together by Artistic Director Timothy Piper, founder of Chorale Lyrica, and featured carols from all 28 EU Member States, which were performed by local choirs, including the Cantiamo Girls Choirs of Ottawa, Chorale Lyrica, Harmonia Choir of Ottawa and the Ottawa Catholic School Board Chamber Choir.

Guest performers included The London Trio Plus, Ottawa Wind Ensemble Brass and soprano Nadia Petrella.

The concert will air multiple times on local Rogers TV 22 throughout the holiday season, and is also available online, courtesy of Algonquin College Broadcasting Programme here.
