The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.
The EU Delegation to the United States of America in Washington DC works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 28 EU Member States. We are a full-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the U.S. government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.
We offer the post of Policy Assistant for Digital Economy Policy (Local Agent Group II). You are a part of a small team which focusses on the European Commission’s Digital Single Market Policies, and in particular those that the Directorate General CONNECTis responsible for. These include legislative measures (such as the Digital Copyright Reform), strategic initiatives (such as the Artificial Intelligence Strategy) and Research & Innovation actions (such as Quantum Technology flagship or individual projects, for instance those supporting EU-US relations on entrepreneurship). Current priorities in the ongoing EU-US conversation includes inter alia: data protection and privacy, disinformation, data economy, copyright, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and digital trade.
The digital team is part of the delegation's trade section, which consists of thirteen people and there are occasional atypical working hours. You will be working under the supervision of the diplomat responsible for digital economy policy and with the trade team and other sections, notably the press and public diplomacy team.Under this job function the successful candidate will be responsible or contribute to the following tasks and duties:

The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and resume. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which will include an interview and practical test, during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.
