The Delegation's focus extends well beyond government-to-government dealings and includes a large array of events from the policy-oriented, to cultural activities, to educational fora. Some are organized by the Delegation; others are hosted by EU Member States, think tanks, universities, and others. To this end, the Delegation also works closely with the European-American Cultural Foundation (EACF) and the European Union National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC). Each year on the Saturday closest to May 9, EU Member State embassies and the EU Delegation in Washington, DC, open their doors to the public and showcase their finest, offering an insider’s view of the embassy, its culture, its people, its food, and its “ways”.
This increasingly popular month of diverse cultural events in the DC metro area encompasses activities ranging from dance to theater to concerts, and art exhibits and lectures. Events in the DC metro area—mostly free of charge—take place at exceptional venues including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the National Gallery of Art, and the U.S. Library of Congress—each representing some of the capital’s most iconic settings for creative cultural expression.
This mostly monthly series of free programs is offered from September through June at the EU Delegation. Programs span an array of performances, from mime, to dance, to travel lectures, to culinary demonstrations, to music, and more, with content typically developed in consultation with EU member countries.
EU@SXSW offers interactive panel discussions, film presentations, and technology demonstrations from some of Europe’s hottest start-ups. Visitors can also relax and mingle over European coffee and pastries on the EU@SXSW networking lawn.
Through candid and vibrant debates about the critical issues facing the transatlantic relationship today, EU Rendez-Vous events strengthen the enduring relationship between the United States, the European Union, and the EU’s Member States.
In 2017, the European Climate Diplomacy Week took place from 19 to 30 June and will consist in multiple events worldwide and an online campaign around the hashtag #ClimaDiplo.
