The European Research Council has awarded €705 million in Starting Grants to young researchers, with 47 UK-based scientists winning over €70m to launch cutting-edge projects. I am deeply honoured to take up my role as Ambassador of the European Union to the United Kingdom at an important moment for our relationship. Having begun my diplomatic career in London more than three decades ago, I return to a country with which I have long-standing ties and a profound appreciation for the strength of the connections between our peoples, economies and societies.

This week, in partnership with the Centre of European Reform (CER), the Delegation hosted a fireside event with Ambassador Serrano in conversation with the CER's Ian Bond to reflect back on the Ambassador's diplomatic career and to weigh up the current status of EU-UK relations.

On the the invitation of Helen Godwin, Mayor of the West of England Combined Authority, the Delegation had the opportunity to visit the University, College and Business communities of Bath - a UNESCO protected city.
