Liverpool Welcomes Europe 2026
Building on the success of the inaugural conference of 2025, a team from the EU Delegation, together with 30 diplomats from across EU Member States, was delighted to take part in the multi-faceted Liverpool Welcomes Europe Conference. Once again, we were warmly welcomed to Liverpool for two days of discussions and events, showcasing the depth and strength of the city’s ties with the European Union. Driven with ambition by Liverpool's City Council the conference is bouyed by the support of 4 key sponsors (The City of Liverpool College, University of Liverpool, Liverpool Hope University and Liverpool John Moores University) and over 20 local private sector partners.

From trade and innovation to culture and people-to-people connections, the packed programme highlighted just how closely connected the port city of Liverpool is to Europe and how much scope there is to build the relationship further. This second year of this unique conference was designed to act as a bridge not only between the UK and Europe but also more specifically between civic leadership and enterprise and between culture and commerce.
Central to this ambition is the development of the Global Liverpool Partnership, which the city hopes to use to bring its anchor institutions, including, of course, its world-renowned football clubs, musical heritage, universities, cultural organisations and major businesses, into a more coordinated international focus. LWE2026 was a important occasion for the Delegation and our diplomatic colleagues to reach beyond the usual circuits of London and get to know counterparts in the Liverpool region.

Liverpool is a wonderful European city, connected to the EU through trade, innovation, arts and rich people-to-people ties. EU-UK relations are being strengthened to the mutual benefit of our citizens and in order to build a stronger Europe.
