THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN ADDRESSING KEY CHALLENGES

Alexandra Valkenburg, Head of the EU Delegation in Rome, participated in an international conference, framed within the project Women in Foreign Policy and Diplomacy which the Aspen Institute Italia and WIIS Italy  are promoting  with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

 

The EU Ambassador Alexandra Valkenburg participated in a conference, hosted by the Aspen Institute, framed within the project “Women in Foreign Policy and Diplomacy.”

She stressed out that "the European Union recognizes women’s meaningful participation as a cross-cutting priority for sustainable peace. The EU’s commitment to gender equality, human rights, peace, and security is embedded in the Treaty on the European Union and reflected in the Global Strategy for the European Union’s Foreign and Security Policy. The EU approach aims to integrate gender equality and women's empowerment into all aspects of external action, including conflict prevention, peace building, development assistance, and humanitarian aid. We have adopted a Gender Action Plan and Council Conclusions on Women, Peace and Security" [...] and then added:
