EU Heads of Missions meeting at the Embassy of Spain to the Holy See

The EU27 Ambassadors and the 33 Ambassadors of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) accredited to the Holy See met for a special meeting at the beautiful Embassy of Spain to the Holy See.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, joined the meeting and in his introductory remarks spoke about the need to work together, in a changing world, for peace, human dignity, values and partnership.

Together, the EU and CELAC countries represent 1/3 of the UN membership. Linked by history, culture and languages, we can further deepen our cooperation by developing our trade relations, working together on the Global Gateway and upgrading our common fight against hunger, poverty, climate change and biodiversity loss.

Columbia’s leadership in the Biodiversity COP16 in Cali/Rome and the forthcoming Climate COP30 in Belém/Brazil are good examples for this, as would be a successful conclusion of the EU-Mercosur Agreement. The EU-CELAC summit in Colombia in the 4th quarter of 2025 will be an important occasion for further strengthening our relations.
