The latest Global Report on Food Crises shows that almost 124 million people in 51 countries face levels of acute food insecurity or worse. This is an increase from the 108 million identified in the previous report.
The Report also indicates that last year major risks of famine were averted in four countries, to which the EU contributed over €750 million. But it also highlights the severity of food crises around the world.
In addition to the EU's contribution to these crises, EU countries provided over €1 billion. Humanitarian assistance has thus far helped prevent large-scale famines in these areas, but humanitarian needs remain 'exceptionally high', according to the report.
