Statement delivered by H.E. Mr. David Mansfield, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Mission of Malta to the United Nations, at the 55th Session of the Commission for Social Development Agenda Item 3(a) General discussion Priority Theme.
Statement by High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime
The European Union and its Member States hold a strong and principled position against the death penalty, in all circumstances and for all cases. This position stems from the universal and fundamental right to life. It is also embedded in “human dignity” of every human being, even of someone who has committed the most atrocious crime.
High Representative Federica Mogherini on Tuesday continued to exert political pressure for progress on the crisis in Syria, in the wake of the air strikes against a UN/Syrian Red Crescent humanitarian aid convoy near Aleppo.
