European Film Festival 2019

19.11.2019

The annual European Film Festival (EUFF) in Rwanda will take place this year from 20 November to 1 December. The Festival is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Rwanda together with resident and non-resident Embassies of the European Union accredited to Rwanda.

This year marks the 5th time that the festival has been organised in Rwanda. It is organised as part of several cultural events organised by the Delegation of the European Union and Embassies of EU Member States during the months of October – November as part of the annual "European Autumn of Culture" in Rwanda. Every year, a wide range of award winning, recent films submitted by Member State Embassies are screened. Like the rest of the EU's cultural events this year, the EUFF seeks to reiterate Europe and Africa's cultural connections and offers the Rwandan public some of the best and latest cinema productions. The 15 films from more than 15 European countries and some from Africa present stories that cut across both continents or deal with topics relevant to Europeans and Africans alike. Most of the films screened are feature films suitable for general audiences and include genres such as drama, comedy, fiction etc. Entries to all screenings are free of charge.

Since 2018, the EU has also incorporated some Rwandan and African content. This year, the opening film is a co-production of Rwanda and Poland titled "Birds are signing in Kigali". The film features a number of Rwandan actors/actresses such as Eliane Umuhire.
