Structured consultations on the future of the Eastern Partnership in Baku

15.10.2019

The EU Delegation in Azerbaijan held structured consultations on the future of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) in cooperation with the Center of Analysis of International Relations in Baku on 11 October 2019.

The consultations were attended by around 100 people representing a wide range of stakeholders. The EU side was represented by a delegation led by Vassilis Maragos, Head of Unit, DG Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations. Participating from the Azerbaijani side were state officials, members of the Parliament, representatives of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, higher education institutions, think tanks, civil society, youth activists and media.

After opening remarks by Mr. Maragos, two panels were held to discuss sustainable economic and human capital development, strengthening of good governance and the rule of law, enhancing cooperation with the EU, and improving visibility of the EU and the Eastern Partnership.

The event provided a unique opportunity for the many stakeholders to take part in the development of the future of the Eastern Partnership by presenting their views and reflections to representatives from the EU and Azerbaijani government.

The consultation process was a part of the informal exchanges with wide range of stakeholders from EU Member States and Partner Countries which was launched at the High-Level Conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) this May in Brussels.
