Traineeships in Delegations

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations and public diplomacy?  Are you curious to learn more about work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Sierra Leone?

What do we offer?

A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Sierra Leone, starting on 2 September 2019


Main tasks:

  • Provide support with researching information and drafting analytical reports
  • Contribute to follow up of EOM recommendations and human rights agenda
  • Provide support on European Economic Diplomacy initiatives
  • Assist the section in the preparation of daily press reviews and in updating the Delegation's website and social media platforms
  • Assist with the preparation of and minute-taking at meetings
  • Provide support for the organisation of public diplomacy events
  • Other tasks set by the Head of Section

Mandatory requirements:

  • Very good command of spoken and written English;
  • Highly motivated, willing to learn and able to work both in a multi-cultural team and to carry out tasks independently;
  • Impeccable ethical standards;
  • Have an understanding of the challenges that life and work in a country such as Sierra Leone entails; be aware of the constraints and risks of the environment;
  • Able to demonstrate strong sense of initiative, research, writing and analysis skills;
  • Skilled in using Microsoft office and social media tools
  • Proven interest for EU affairs and international relations.

    Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN (2017)28 – Paid traineeship) 
    The selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. The rate for Sierra Leone is currently 300 EUR/month. However, costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation and visa must be borne by the trainee.  
    Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered.
    After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
