The overall objective of this programme is to address the vulnerabilities of adolescent girls and boys.

Expected results:

  • Adolescent girls and boys, (IDPs and host community aged 10-19), have improved life skills, reproductive health knowledge and psychosocial support;
  • Adolescent girls and boys have improved financial literacy and access to savings and loans, improved livelihood skills and links to vocational training;
  • Community leaders and members—particularly men and boys—including government actors and local service providers offer an enabling and supportive environment for adolescent girls to thrive.  

 Main activities:

  • Identification of safe spaces;
  • Development of curriculums on life skills, reproductive health, psycho-social support, financial literacy for girls and boys;
  • Distribution of vouchers to most vulnerable girls and boys in safe spaces;
  • Train community leaders, government actors and service providers on protection issues facing adolescent girls (and boys);
  • Development of tools to address adolescent girls’ needs in emergency settings;
  • Organization of a “Reaching Girls in Humanitarian Settings Summit” for government actors, peer agencies and donors focused on Nigeria. 

 Main accomplishments to date:

  • Contract start date 1/09/2016; 700 (193 boys and 507 girls) safe spaces have been established with 15, 904 adolescents enrolled (11,923 girls and 3,981boys) in Borno and Gombe;
  • 983 mentors and coordinators have been trained on Health/Life skills/Financial education curriculum(578 female mentors and 14 female coordinators, 243 male mentors and 48 coordinators) for Safe Spaces in Borno and Gombe;
  • 99 Health workers trained on issues relating to sexual and gender based violence (SGBV);
  • 1,566 community leaders and members sensitized on the importance of I-SING interventions for adolescent girls and boys;
  • 119 community and religious leaders (60 Religious leaders and 59 community leaders) trained on protection issues facing adolescent girls and boys;
