Today, the European Union Delegation (EU) to the United Nations (UN), in partnership with Eataly (Flatiron location), announced the inaugural ‘Taste of Europe’ Food Night in NYC, to be held on the 2nd of May, 2018. This event celebrates the rich and diverse cuisine seen across Europe - from the shores of Greece, to the hills of the German Alps, food plays a large role in European culture, and is one of the key factors which makes Europe such a popular tourist destination. The European Food Night aims to give the New York public an opportunity to experience Europe through their senses; fine wine combined with the intricate dishes prepared by world renowned European chefs will leave your taste buds delighted.
The high profile opening event will feature some of Europe’s best New York-based European chefs. The participating chefs are Gabriel Kreuther of France, Günter Seeger of Germany, Eduard Frauneder of Austria and Maria Loi of Greece.
Stationed at two locations within Eataly Flatiron, each chef will be responsible for the different stages of the meal; Passed Assaggi will be served at Scuola, Antipasto, Main Course and Dessert at Verdure et Pesce.
“We live in this exciting city, like many Europeans do. Daily, we eat European food, being proud to bring our cultural heritage and diversity to this magnificent metropole. Europe has some of the most exciting, exotic and delicious dishes to tantalize New York’s foodie fans. French foie grass, German sausage, Austrian schnitzel, Italian pasta, Greek youghurt, and the list is endless. We want to celebrate European outside of Europe, in particular this year, as 2018 is nominated as the year of European Cultural Heritage by the European Commission. We want to celebrate Europe by highlighting some of our continents culinary feats to New Yorkers, who are ready to expand their taste horizons and to get closer to European food culture,” Ambassador João Vale de Almeida, Head of EU Delegation to the UN.
The dining time for this food adventure is approximately 2-hours in total, guests will be escorted and will witness the chefs prepare the meal in front of them.
Limited number of tickets has been made available to the general public, with the four courses extravaganza (including wine) priced at $195 per person. Tickets are available through Gilt – use code EATALY for $25 discount - valid until May 1! The event will be held at 7.30pm on May 2, 2018.
“There are so many European dishes that have become part of our staple US meals. This European food festival takes you back to the origins of some of your favorite dishes, crafted by internationally renowned European chefs.” Dino Borri, Eataly NYC, Executive Director.
Currently 1/3 of the food produced is still wasted. The 'Taste of Europe' Food Night aims to raise awareness regarding this discrepancy between our food production and our food consumption. In order to feed the world sustainably, it is imperative that producers are able to scale their production needs with the increasing demand, while simultaneously reducing their environmental impacts. Therefore, this food night will not only focus on the pleasures that can be found in European cuisines, but it also aims to address the challenges of food waste and raise awareness regarding the importance of sustainable food consumption and production.
