MEDIA ADVISORY: Under the Spotlight: Ending Violence against all Women and Girls
Venue: Economic and Social Council Chamber
Date: Monday, 12 March 2018
Time: 3:00 PM – 4:15 PM EDT
In September 2017, the United Nations and the European Union launched the Spotlight Initiative – a new, global effort focused on eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls. The initiative will deploy targeted, large-scale investments in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Pacific and the Caribbean, aimed at achieving significant improvements in the lives of women and girls.
The Spotlight Initiative is currently supported by the EU's contribution of EUR 500 million, while other donors and partners have been invited to join. The effort is being administered by the UN’s Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office, with the support of the UN Development Programme, UN Population Fund and UN Women, and overseen by the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General.
