18.08.2025

As States Parties commemorate five decades of collective achievement since the BWC entered into force, new and complex challenges demand renewed attention. One of the most pressing is the erosion of information integrity in the biological disarmament domain. The side event will address how disinformation and manipulation of scientific narratives affect trust, transparency, and cooperation under the Convention, and explore practical tools to strengthen resilience against such challenges. The event will set out the EU’s strategy on Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) and outline the toolbox the EU is developing to detect, analyse and coordinate responses to FIMI. It will also provide perspectives on disinformation narratives relating to biosecurity and disease outbreaks from around the world, and report findings on regional trends and responses to disinformation.
