A Child-Focused Humanitarian Reset – Why and How?

As part of the 2025 ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment (HAS), Save the Children, UNICEF, World Vision, and Plan International, with the support of the Permanent Mission of Kenya and the Delegation of the European Union to the UN in Geneva, are pleased to invite you to the following side event:
A Child-Focused Humanitarian Reset – Why and How?
- Monday, 16 June 2025
- 14:45–16:15 CEST
- Conference Room XXI, Palais des Nations, Geneva
- 🔗 [Register here]
The humanitarian system is under growing pressure to adapt to the scale and complexity of crises. Children make up a large share of affected populations—often over 40% of the forcibly displaced—yet their rights and needs are frequently sidelined. This event will explore how a child-focused approach must be integral to the humanitarian reset being discussed at ECOSOC HAS.
We will consider how humanitarian coordination, financing, and accountability mechanisms can better serve children. We will also examine how to sustain child-focused action in resource-constrained environments, and how to systematize children’s participation in decision-making.
Speakers:
Dr Jamie Munn, Executive Director of ICVA, will moderate the panel:
- Opening Remarks: H.E. Mrs. Fancy Chepkemoi Too, Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations in Geneva
- Kateryna, girl representative from Ukraine, member of Plan International’s Youth Advisory Panel;
- Gabriella Waaijman, Chief Operating Officer, Save the Children and Co-Chair, IASC OPAG;
- Hatem Hudson, Representative of the local NGO from Türkiye, Support to Life;
- Hanna Jahns, Director for Strategy and Policy, Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO);
