The Permanent Mission of Belgium and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, together with the Permanent Mission of Mexico, the EU Delegation and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions are pleased to invite you to a side-event in the margins of 33rd session of the Human Rights Council: the 15th Anniversary of the Durban Declaration - Strengthening the role of National Human Rights Institutions and equality bodies in the fight against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance on the 16th of September 2016 from 2 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. in Room XXII - Palais des Nations.

 

The objectives of this side-event are the following:

- Raise awareness on the role and activities of NHRIs and equality bodies in the fight against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance, as an important element in the implementation of the Durban Declaration and its Review Conference;

- Discuss and share the best practices related to effective strategies and concrete actions to strengthen the impact of NHRIs and equality bodies in in the fight against racism, racial discrimination and related intolerance; and

- Introduce the OHCHR Guide to be published on the establishment of independent mechanisms for promotion, protection and monitoring in the field of racism.
