"Women's empowerment and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals", a side event to the 41st session of the UN Human Right Council. Thursday 27 June, 15:30-17:00, Palais des Nations Room XXVII.

The empowerment of women and advancing gender equality are prerequisites for the realization of human rights and for building inclusive, balanced and stable societies. In fact, these objectives are reflected across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. It is clear that Women's empowerment plays a key role for sustainable development of all regions of the world.

This event will highlight experiences and ongoing efforts aiming at enhancing the empowerment of women on all levels as well as discuss current shortcomings and challenges faced while advancing women’s rights in Europe, Africa and globally. The aim of the event is to raise awareness about the importance of women’s empowerment for sustainable development, to exchange ideas on new opportunities for women’s empowerment, and to discuss the impressive work of existing initiatives to empower women and achieve the realization of their rights - particularly in the African continent.
