Delegation of the European Union to the
UN and other international organisations in Geneva

EVENT: HRC 37 - Religion and State: a multidimensional relationship

22/02/2018 - 17:14

This year's report of the UN Special Rapporteur on FoRB focuses on the state and religion relationships and their impact on freedom of religion or belief. Although international law does not prescribe any particular form of state-religion relationship, it does impose a duty on the State to be an impartial guarantor of freedom of religion or belief to all.

This event will discuss experiences and lessons learned from concrete examples and offer the opportunity for the UN Special Rapporteur to present his views on how to protect freedom of religion or belief regardless of the type of state-religion relationships that exist.
