The National Power Company "Ukrenergo" has successfully reached a grant agreement with the financial institution KfW for €100 million. This funding, provided by the European Commission under the Ukraine Investment Framework (UIF), part of the Ukraine facility, will support the "Reconstruction and Restoration of Ukraine's Electricity Transmission Infrastructure II" project.

This grant marks one of the first agreements signed under the UIF program, demonstrating a significant step towards enhancing Ukraine's electricity transmission network.

The abovementioned agreement was signed on July 18  by the Chairman of the Management Board of “Ukrenergo” Volodymyr Kudrytskyi and the Director of the KfW Office in Ukraine Lorenz Gessner in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Roman Andarak and energy projects coordinator at the Delegation of European Union in Ukraine Ulyana Rudnytska.

“Russia can not win on the battlefield, so they’re destroying our energy infrastructure. Massive enemy attacks led to significant losses of both generating capacities and facilities of the electricity transmission system. Among our priorities are not only the restoration of lines and substations, but also the construction of new infrastructure of the transmission system using modern and energy-efficient technologies. We thank the European Commission and our partners from KfW for their help, which will be directed to fulfilling these goals," – Roman Andarak pointed out.

Preserving every megawatt in the system is critical, and the EU is pleased to contribute to the retrofitting and recovery of Ukraine's energy infrastructure", stated Stefan Schleuning, Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.

“The reconstruction, restoration and expansion of the electric power infrastructure are crucial for the recovery and economic development of Ukraine. Due to the increase in energy efficiency, the integration of the Ukrainian energy system into the common European network, the supply of electricity will be stabilized. At the same time, the conditions for economic activity and everyday life of Ukrainian people throughout the country will improve," – underlined Lorenz Gessner.

In particular, the project includes reconstruction, repair, rehabilitation and replacement of destroyed and/or damaged parts of the Ukrainian electricity transmission infrastructure, as well as the equipment, the construction of new substations and power transmission lines using modern and energy-efficient technologies plus measures of physical protection of the elements of electric power infrastructure.
