The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Ukraine works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Ukrainian government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

The post of a Driver (Local Agent Group V) in the Delegation’s Administration Section. The team consists of 17 people and there are occasional atypical working hours.
Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Administration Section, providing support, expertise and driving services for the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

Following main tasks and duties are currently required: 

  • Driving Sedan, SUV, Minibus (9 places), Armoured vehicles
  • Assuming the responsibility for Delegation vehicles and ensuring that the vehicle is in a clean and perfect roadworthy state at all times (if any work on a car has to be done outside working hours, especially at weekends, prior authorisation must be obtained from the Head of Administration)
  • On daily basis, performance of checks and required actions to keep the car in perfect roadworthy state all the time
  • Carrying out checks each morning of the basic mechanical function of the vehicle and reporting any damage immediately to the Head of Administration
  • Following up on periodic maintenance, service and necessary repairs subject to the authorisation of the Head of Administration
  • Maintaining a duly log book of the vehicle
  • Carrying out driving assignments authorised by the Head of Administration and informing him/drivers' schedule coordinator immediately when there are changes in the programmed schedule
  • Ensuring timely transportation of staff in the execution of their functions
  • Assisting with customs clearance when required
  • Performing mail and messenger services with the responsibility for the proper delivery of documents in line with given instructions and procedures in place
  • Ensuring the safety and security of all occupant of delegation vehicles travelling during missions and other trips
  • Timely inform and assist with driver substitution by telephone contact with Delegation where assignments are extended without warning or delays are incurred
  • Carrying out reception backup duties when required: answering and forwarding phone calls, screening phone calls; sorting, recording and distributing all incoming post and deliveries; greeting/directing persons entering Delegation and monitoring visitor access
  • Data entry and management of the drivers' records on mileage and petrol consumption in IT systems designated for this purpose
  • Daily maintenance of records of all overtime in the IT systems designated for this purpose
  • Ensure polite communication at work
  • Fulfilling other administrative tasks as designated by the Head of Administration

The Employment Contract will be signed for 10 years. The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience. There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurances and a retirement savings plan.

The expected start date will be October 2024. 

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

  • Completed Secondary education;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a professional driver and driving licence B, C;
  • Working knowledge  (B1) of English; fluent written and spoken Ukrainian;
  • Knowledge of IT tools: MS Office;
  • Right to residence and work in Ukraine;
  • Medical fitness to carry out the tasks assigned.

Assets / selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant)

  • Professional driving school qualifications;
  • Previous driving experience with an international organisation;
  • Thorough knowledge of Kyiv;
  • Experience of long distance driving throughout Ukraine;
  • Good judgement and understanding of basic mechanical car operations;
  • Excellent driving skills.

The process

After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.

Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based assessment of the information provided in the cover letter, CV; practical testing and interviews. Three/two best candidates will be invited to the final practical driving testing phase of the Selection.

Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this job advertisement to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
