Brussels, 18 December 2018

The European Union and Ukraine discussed in Brussels on 18 December 2018 the consequences of the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol. It was the sixth such meeting, held at senior officials' level, between the European External Action Service (EEAS) and Commission services on the one hand, and representatives of the relevant Ukrainian ministries on the other.

The meeting provided an opportunity for an update by the EU and Ukraine on their respective policies towards Crimea and Sevastopol as well as on the situation in the peninsula. Issues discussed included also the security developments and the human rights situation. The EU gave an update of the implementation of its measures of non-recognition, including on restrictive measures. Cooperation in international fora as well as questions of international law were also discussed.

The EU does not and will not recognise the illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia. It remains committed to fully implement its non-recognition policy.
