Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Ukraine?

What do we offer?

A traineeship of six months starting in July 2018 in the Section for Economic Cooperation, Energy, Infrastructure and Environment of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

The Section is in charge of managing projects in the above areas as well as monitoring and accompanying the developments in the area of energy, environment, transport and infrastructure, climate action, as well as in the area of SME development and financial regulation.

The intern will be fully embedded in the work of the section, receive direct exposure to the EU activities in Ukraine, and be provided with a unique occasion to understand from inside the work of an EU Delegation in a third country.

Main tasks:

  • Analysis of legislation and legal texts in the above areas, notably energy;
  • Data gathering and analysis of economic and energy indicators in the country;
  • Support to compilation of reports;
  • Participate in internal and external meetings/events and reporting;
  • Assist the work of the Section as required.

Mandatory requirements

  • Bachelor degree in political science, economics or related field;
  • Very good command of spoken and written English;
  • Very good command of Word, Powerpoint, Excel;
  • Very good analytical capacity;
  • Proven interest for EU affairs and neighbourhood policies and in energy / energy efficiency policies;
  • Proven networking and writing skills;
  • Capacity to work independently, with attention to details.

Additional requirements that would be an asset

  • Good command of Ukrainian and/or Russian language;
  • Experience in EU energy / energy efficiency legislation or project management;
  • Knowledge of Ukraine's institutional system and political landscape;

Before applying you are requested to examine the general eligibility criteria*

for traineeships (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Paid traineeship for young graduates)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. However costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation and visa must be borne by the trainee.

Visa: The working conditions and the status of the trainee in the host country should be in full conformity with the local legislation. Hence, maximal possible time to do the internship for EU citizens is restricted within 90 days (no visa required period) unless an EU citizen candidate already resides in Ukraine. The internship period shall be limited by the official term of such residency.  The Delegation cannot provide any visa support for a candidate who intends to do internship at the Delegation. Expatriate trainees have to register with their national Consulate or Embassy or any other resident diplomatic representation competent for their nationality.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
