The Delegation of the EU to Ukraine is looking for a paid intern starting in May-June 2018 for a period of three months, with a possibility of extension.

A paid traineeship within the Trade and Economic Section of the Delegation of the EU in Ukraine

The Trade and Economic Section of the Delegation of the EU in Ukraine is a small (5 persons) but dynamic and strategic section in the Delegation of the EU in Ukraine. The intern would be fully embedded in the work of the section.

It is notably responsible for the monitoring of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, and in particular of its trade part, the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade area between the EU and Ukraine. The section is also involved in the negotiation and implementation of the balance of payment support to Ukraine (Macro-Financial Assistance).

Main tasks:

  •    to carry out research tasks (including simple economic and data analysis)
  •  to attend and report on events
  •  to contribute to the drafting of economic papers
  •  to update the EU Delegation's website (trade and economic part), English and Ukrainian versions
  •  to update the section's databases, to polish the section's presentation's, etc.


Are you eligible for remunerated traineeship?

You may apply for the traineeship if:

  • You are a young graduate with a University diploma (at least Bachelor degree)
  • You have less than 1 year of professional experience
  • You are a national of Ukraine, an EU Member State or pre-accession State 
  • You have no previous professional experience in any of the EU institutions of more than 6 weeks


Mandatory requirements

  • At least Bachelor degree in economics or related field (e.g. finance)
  • Native Ukrainian or Russian speaker and fluency in both languages
  • Very good command of English
  • Excellent command of office tools, and in particular of excel (including graphic tools) and PowerPoint
  • Proven interest for EU affairs
  • Autonomy and rigorousness


Additional requirements that would be an asset

  • Knowledge of an additional EU language
  • Additional degree in another field (e.g. law)


What are the general rules?

  • Duration: the traineeship can be up to a maximum of six months
  • Monthly grant: selected trainees will receive a monthly grant of 1000 EUR
  • Visa: The working conditions and the status of the trainee in the host country should be in full conformity with the local legislation. Hence, maximal possible time to do the internship for EU citizens is restricted within 90 days (no visa required period) unless an EU citizen candidate already resides in Ukraine. The internship period shall be limited by the official term of such residency.  The Delegation cannot provide any visa support for a candidate who intends to do internship at the Delegation. Expatriate trainees have to register with their national Consulate or Embassy or any other resident diplomatic representation competent for their nationality.
  • Travel: trainees have to arrange and finance their travel to the EU Delegation
  • Accommodation: the trainee will have to cover the accommodation costs

After the evaluation of all applications received is over, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. In case the selected candidate is not able to present all required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
