The Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro is responsible for analysing and reporting on political, economic and trade developments, promoting reform progress, for implementing and managing an EU financial assistance portfolio and improving visibility and communication of the EU in Montenegro.
Twenty tonnes of hash - compressed cannabis resin - worth €200 million were seized earlier this month in the fuel tanks of the "Remus", a Panamanian-flagged ship that was stopped in international waters by Italian police. The successful joint operation of the Montenegrin and Italian police forces took place in the framework of an EU-supported project.
As previously stated, we expect the Montenegrin authorities to conduct a prompt and effective investigation into the attack on Olivera Lakic so that the perpetrators and masterminds of this deplorable attack will be soon brought to justice.
Freedom of expression and media is one of the European Union's fundamental values and a key element of Montenegro's EU accession process. We continue to follow very closely Montenegro's response to attacks and threats against journalists, which will be part of the assessment of the fulfilment of the interim benchmarks under chapter 23.
In response to recent increase in the number of refugees, migrants and asylum-seekers transiting via through Montenegro, the European Commission contributes 90.000 EUR in humanitarian funding to assist the people in need.
The eleventh meeting of the Accession Conference with Montenegro at Ministerial level was held today in Luxembourg to open negotiations on Chapter 17 - Economic and monetary policy.
