EU Ambassador presents winners of the 2016 EU illustrator competition

At the beginning of March this year, the European Union Delegation to Uganda set out to find a talented and creative Ugandan illustrator to participate in the production of a youth animation book series. That journey came to a fruitful conclusion yesterday at the official celebrations to mark Europe Day in the Republic of Uganda.

At a colourful reception hosted for guests at his residence in Kampala, the EU Head of Delegation to Uganda, H.E Ambassador Kristian Schmidt, together with Chief Guest, Ugandan Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa, awarded the top prize to two young talented Ugandans.
Congratulations to Mr. Phillip Nsamba who won the 2nd prize of the 2016 EU Illustrator Competition. With this victory, the EU Delegation is providing Mr Nsamba a paid 9 weeks training course in 3D Animation at the Artfield Institute of Design in Kampala, as part of our promise to youth empowerment, Ambassador Schmidt said.
Congratulations to Mr. Arnold Abayo for winning the top prize of the 2016 EU Uganda illustrator competition.
"We are looking forward to your participation in our production of this book series," Ambassador Schmidt said, noting that the book series will help promote social awareness, on the challenges and realities facing youth in Uganda.
The artworks of 10 young talented Ugandans were placed on exhibition for invited guests.
"The quality of entries submitted for this competition was without doubt excellent and your works are a true testament to this. I also congratulate our partners Bayimba Productions Limited and AfriArt Gallery for a job well done," said Ambassador Schmidt."My thanks to the creative souls that organised this competition, my staff in the Political Press and Information Section at our Delegation."
