The roundtable in Ashgabat has been attended by Ms Gurbannazarova, Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan, Mr Nuryev and Director of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, together with representatives of different national ministries and other central bodies, public associations, media, and representatives of international partners of Turkmenistan accredited in the country, including the Liaison Office of the European Union.
The Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan Ms Gurbannazarova highlighted in her address:
"The Human Rights Resource Centers* in all 5 Veloyats (provinces) of Turkmenistan, funded by the European Union, are today successfully serving the citizens of the country, providing an important and useful instrument for raising their awareness of the human rights related issues, and serve as base for conducting different human rights related activities".
* Opening of the Human Rights Resource Centre in Ashgabat and in all five provinces (Veloyats) of Turkmenistan is a remarkable achievement going beyond the initial concept of the Project “Strengthening the national capacity of Turkmenistan to promote and protect human rights”, a joint EC/UNDP/OHCHR action implemented by UNDP Turkmenistan between September 2009 and August 2012 (quote from a Mid-Term Evaluation of the Project).
