Ashgabat Celebrates Europe Day 2025 with “Spirit of Unity and Partnership” Reception

On 16 May 2025 the Delegation of the European Union to Turkmenistan hosted a vibrant reception in Ashgabat to celebrate Europe Day, annually observed on 9 May. The event welcomed over 350 distinguished guests, including high-level representatives from Turkmenistan’s national authorities, the diplomatic corps, international organisations, EU funded projects, the private sector, civil society, media, and volunteers.

Ambassador of the European Union to Turkmenistan Ms Beata Pęksa warmly welcomed the attendees, whose presence underscored the strong spirit of partnership between the European Union and Turkmenistan. In her remarks, she highlighted Europe Day as a powerful symbol of unity and cooperation, emphasising the EU's commitment to continued collaboration with Central Asia and Turkmenistan in key areas such as sustainable development, education, energy efficiency, digital innovation, environmental protection, human rights, and cultural exchanges, all vital for strengthening bilateral ties.

This year's Europe Day holds particular significance as it commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. This visionary declaration laid the very foundation for the European Union, born from the ashes of World War II with a profound roadmap for lasting peace, shared prosperity, and deep integration. Ambassador Pęksa reaffirmed the European Union’s unwavering commitment to peace, partnership, universal human rights, international cooperation, and a rules-based global order., She reiterated the EU's firm stance against Russia's brutal war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity until a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace is achieved.

The reception was a festive showcase of the rich heritage of both the European Union and Turkmenistan, embodying their shared values of diversity and mutual respect. Guests enjoyed live performances by a local band and captivating piano pieces, creating a memorable atmosphere. To enhance the spirit of the occasion, a carefully curated selection of European and Turkmen cuisine was served, offering guests the opportunity to experience and appreciate the rich culinary traditions of both.

The success of the Europe Day reception was made possible thanks to the generous support of its partners and sponsors: the BOMCA 10 Programme, the Embassy of France, the Embassy of Germany, and Design Lab.

The event was a testimony to the close partnership between the European Union and Turkmenistan, reaffirming their joint commitment to peace, prosperity, and rules-based international order.
